Gagen McCoy Co-Hosts 21st Anniversary Dinner of The Law Center To Prevent Gun Violence
Gagen McCoy is proud to announce it will co-host the 21st Anniversary Dinner of the Law Center To Prevent Gun Violence, set for June 25, 2014 at the Westin St Francis in San Francisco. The Law Center has been on the forefront of the gun violence prevention movement since its formation after the 101 California shootings in 1993.
This year, the Center is honoring former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords and retired astronaut US Navy Captain Mark Kelly, along with Youth ALIVE, an Oakland organization dedicated to helping urban youth advocate against gun violence.
In light of the horrific spate of school shootings in just the last three weeks, this should be a meaningful and moving event. Giffords knows first-hand the personal horror of gun violence. On January 8, 2011, a mentally ill young man shot Giffords in the head, killed six of her constituents, and wounded 12 others. Since that tragedy in Tucson, America has seen too many more mass shootings, but with no response from Congress. We were grimly reminded of this inaction after the massacre of twenty children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.
On the second anniversary of the horrific Tucson shooting, as America mourned the dead in Newtown, Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, launched Americans for Responsible Solutions to encourage elected officials to stand up for solutions to prevent gun violence and protect responsible gun ownership.
Gagen McCoy is proud to support Giffords’ efforts, as well as the mission of the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, the only national law center focused on providing comprehensive legal expertise in support of gun violence prevention and the promotion of smart gun laws that save lives. Gagen McCoy shareholder Lauren Dodge is a pro bono partner of the Law Center and has provided research and analysis on proposed legislation to ban possession of large capacity ammunition magazines.
