Patrick J. McMahon

Patrick McMahon handles civil litigation and business matters. His substantial litigation experience includes the representation of clients in a broad range of business and real estate matters including disputes relating to the dissolution of businesses, claims for injunctive relief, breach of contract, fraud and nondisclosure cases, wrongful terminations, and land use and easement disputes. He has tried many cases to judgment in state and federal courts.
His business practice involves working with clients on a broad range of business matters, including the formation of closely-held corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, the negotiating and drafting of contracts including buy-sell agreements, partnership agreements, operating agreements, executive and other employment agreements, leases, service agreements, agreements relating to the purchase, sale, or merger of businesses, and dissolution agreements.
Mr. McMahon has represented a diverse and varied range of clients in his many years of practice, including lawyers, doctors, and other professionals, public entities and officials, developers, business executives, closely-held corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, and individuals.
Mr. McMahon is admitted to practice in all California State courts, the United States District Court, Northern and Eastern Districts of California, and the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. He attended the University of Minnesota, and served with the U.S. Army Security Agency. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State College in 1970. He received his law degree from Boston College Law School in 1973. Before joining the firm in 1976, Mr. McMahon was a deputy district attorney in Contra Costa County.
Mr. McMahon is rated as "Preeminent," with a Peer Rating of 5.0 out of 5.0 in Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. McMahon has also gained recognition as a California Super Lawyer, a designation reserved for just five percent of the attorneys in the state. He has served as a director and president of the Alameda-Contra Costa Trial Lawyers Association, and as a director and president of the Contra Costa County Bar Association. He is a member of the California Bar Association and its Litigation and Business Law Sections, the California Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association and its Litigation and Business Law Sections. He has served on various Contra Costa County Superior Court Bench-Bar committees, as Superior Court Judge Pro Tempore, and as a court-appointed and private arbitrator and mediator.
Mr. McMahon has served as a director and president of the San Ramon Valley Community Center, chair of the San Ramon Valley Chamber of Commerce Commercial Development Committee, director and vice-president of the San Ramon Valley Chamber of Commerce and as a director and president of the Danville Lions Club.
